Ruby is a lovely conglomerate canyon on the outskirts of LA County, up past the Castaic area. Nothing terribly challenging, but it has several beautiful sections where the canyon walls close in, revealing the layered textures and colors of the different rocks, along with a handful of fun downclimbs and interesting rappels. We got a big group of friends together, set up the long shuttle, and camped the night before at the start. We hit the trail just as the sun was beginning to peek over the surrounding hills, knowing we had a long day ahead and that the exit hike would take some time. It turned into a full day of scrambling, rappelling, and enjoying the scenery, but mostly just a great excuse to get outside with good people. Another lovely local outing, and a reminder that you don’t have to travel far to find a little adventure.
