I wanted to try and guide canyons for one more season and contacted a canyoning company in Dominica to see if thy were in need. Unfortunately, they were not, but they did mention that they were trying to sell the company. I was intrigued, and wondering if that were a path I wanted to pursue. I told them I might be interested, so they invited me over to stay at their lovely cottage for a few days while I checked out their whole process and infrastructure. While I loved their space and the canyon they guided, I knew pretty quickly that I would not want to own a company on this island. The natural beauty is incredible, but it’s also quite poor and not a whole lot going on. Plus, their airport is known for being a challenging place to land, which I experienced first hand and would heartily agree with. It was kinda funny, you could tell the wife of the canyoning company owner was desperate to sell and get off that island, while the owner seemed somewhat indifferent and happy where he was. In any case, it was nice to explore the island for about a week; did some diving; tagged along for a guided trip through the main canyon they guided (I tried to get some info on some other canyons on the island as beta was limited, but the owner was pretty cagey and non committal about doing other canyons, so no go there unfortunately); I drove around and checked out some nice beaches, one with a waterfall emptying onto the beach, and also hiked to a boiling lake.
