The Pops was turning 70, so my brother, sister, and I took him out to Vegas for a couple of days of fun and games. I took them out to a canyon near Lake Mead called Keyhole, an easy and scenic romp. It was the first time we’d all done a canyon together, and may have been my brother and sister’s first canyoning experience. My dad had done a guided canyon near Queenstown when he came to visit me in New Zealand, so he wasn’t entirely new to it. They all did really well, and it was a special experience to share. We also caught the “O” show by Cirque du Soleil, with its impressive water acrobatics, followed by a great and hilarious dinner at Dick’s Last Resort, where they write an R-rated message on a hat and plop it on your head. We rounded things out by showing off our golf skills (or lack thereof, in my case) at the driving range. It was great having us all together to celebrate Dad’s milestone birthday.
