Considered an alpine trek by Australia’s standards, with an average elevation around 3000 ft, the 40 mile hut to hut Overland Track lies within picturesque Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and is one of the premiere hikes in all of Australia. The cool thing about Tasmania is that it has a high level of endemism, which means there is a lot of flora and fauna only found on this island: 60% of the alpine flora is endemic; 12 endemic bird species; 300 species of native flowering plants; and of course the Tasmanian Devil. I spent a few days on the trail going from hut to hut or sleeping in a tent, marveling at the unique and diverse landscape. Lots of cool things to see on this trail. Highly recommend.
