So many things stand out when I think of my time in Cambodia: of course the largest religious monument on the planet in Angkor Wat, the temples and towers expand over 402 acres, and I spent 3 days driving around on a motorcycle trying to see as much as possible, my favorite sections being the areas where nature was taking its course enveloping itself around the structures of the temples; the beautiful white sand beaches of Koh Rong; the fascinating Buddhist caves of Battambang; and the very tragic and somber history of the killing fields during the Khmer Rouge genocide. Cambodia is often overshadowed by its neighbors, Vietnam and Thailand, but it is worth a visit just as much as those other popular destinations. So much to do and see, a rich history, and very cheap. One story I tell about my time there is the night when the proprietor of a hostel drunkenly came into the dorm room late at night and then proceeded to urinate all over the floor, narrowly missing my belongings, then when confronted attempted to blame me for it, and then the condensation from the air conditioner, all of which continued my love/hate relationship with hostels; but despite that I would absolutely visit Cambodia again; a very special place.
